Calling song/stridulation from a male Speckled
Bush-cricket (Leptophyes punctatissima) in garden shrubbery.
A single, quiet, largely ultrasonic element repeated
every 3-4 seconds. Mostly inaudible to my ears, this
individual was recorded using heterodyne bat detector
set to 40 kHz which transforms the sound into a loud
audible tap.

Calling song/stridulation from a male Speckled
Bush-cricket (Leptophyes punctatissima) in a vivarium.
A single (occasionally double), quiet element repeated
every 2-4 seconds. Normally I can't hear this species
outside in the natural environment, but I could inside
when I transferred this male (which was attracted to
the light of my moth trap) to a tank. Recorded
using a normal microphones (frequency range 20 Hz to
20 kHz). Called 758 times in a 60 minute recording period.
